Our Story
About Living Blue
Living Blue Best of Bangladesh
Living Blue is a dream, stitched and dyed, made for a lifetime by women and men of high craftsmanship and dignity. Our atelier is in Rangpur, Bangladesh, inside a small farming village named Goalpara (pronounced: go-al-para). The setup is an architectural beauty made of local bamboo. In addition to our main workshop, our artisans work out of six villages spread throughout the northern districts in Bangladesh.
Living Blue is an attempt to learn from history. The benefits of growing, extracting, dyeing, and trading this indigo dye directly accrue to this enterprise. The indigo initiative has created numerous vocations and jobs - plant harvesters, indigo dye extractors and manufacturers, dyers, shibori and kheta (quilt) artisans. Each of these activities adds value, and these producer groups are cross-connecting and collaborating with each others' specialties, thereby creating a foundation for small enterprises, textile-related manufacturing, and regional economic development. The enterprise is contributing to local economic development.
Living Blue artisans are natural designers and art revivalists. They bring in generational knowledge, know-how, and skill to each fabric they work with and the collection they create.
Living Blue is contemporary, blended in tradition and individual talent. It blends Bangladeshi quilting techniques with the Japanese shibori tie-die technic and produces unique masterpieces.
At Living Blue, we believe in the power of collaboration. We have partnered with designers, design houses, and boutiques from different countries. LIving Blue brings unique designs and high craftsmanship, and we partner only with those who appreciate the power of artisanship and believe in co-designing.
