Artisans at work – smile that matters!
There is a moment, just before the cloth is unfolded, when no one knows exactly what will emerge.
That is shibori.
At the Living Blue atelier in Rangpur, a team of artisans work the cloth by hand — folding, binding, stitching, clamping — each technique coaxing the natural indigo into a different pattern. The dye resists where the fabric is held. It floods where it is free. The result is never entirely predictable, and that is precisely the point.
Shibori is not slow work in the way of months. But it demands something equally rare — complete attention. The placement of each stitch, the tightness of each bind, the moment the cloth enters the vat and the moment it leaves — every decision shapes what the indigo reveals.
The artisans at the atelier do not simply follow a pattern. They read the cloth, negotiate with the dye, and bring their own instinct to every piece. No two results are the same, because no two hands work exactly alike.
This is what makes Living Blue shibori worth wearing — not just the indigo, not just the technique, but the focused, passionate engagement of the people behind it.
